The ATC - 5K is a different animal totally and is over the £100.00 mark and because of this you would expect more features, which is exactly what you get MORE FEATURES. It is a very professional looking helmet cam with LCD screen for instant play back. It will just about take everything you throw at it with shock proof for most extreme sports. As most action cameras it comes with all the mounts for just about any sport though sometimes a little imagination will be necessary for a really secure mounting. Oh...by the way it will also take digital still photos and can be used as a web cam for your PC!

The Gopro HD Helmet Hero Action Camera is the worlds highest performance action camera.....the holy grail of helmet camcorders. With a price tag of just under£300.00 it is the most expensive camera. For professional use and those who have the budget it doesn’t get any better than this. With just one push of the record button you can record up to 2.5 hours of video or stills. Housed in a removable polycarbonate housing it is shock proof to anything and waterproof to 60m! The mountings fit any conceivable helmet, handle bar, ski, surf board, windscreen etc and even can be strapped to your chest or wrist but check carefully what is included when you buy. There are 3 models to choose from 1080p, 960p and 720p. If you can afford it buy it!

At the low end of the action camera video market, under £100.00, the picture quality and sound quality is going to be compromised somewhat. If you are looking to record your activities just for yourself as a bit of fun then they will be OK. The ATC1000 and ATC2000 are both early models from Oregon Scientific and since have been well superceded. They may be difficult to get hold of new and then you have to think if it might not be better paying that little more for a newer model.

Once you start getting under the £60.00 bracket then you really can’t expect too much quality but hey! so what, they can be a really great little gift for a birthday or Christmas present and I guarantee they will love it.

Which Helmet Video Camera

The Vhold ContourHD helmet camera is a fantastic action cameras and under £300.00 you really do get what you pay for.

It is a professional camera and was the worlds first High Definition action camera. The features are just awesome check them out! Laser guides, wide angle lens, fully self contained, one touch recording, rechargeable batteries etc etc...it just goes on and on. The coolest feature is it is small enough and light enough to be attached to goggles!

There is a wide choice of helmet video camcorders on the market from under £50.00 to nearly £300.00 for an all singing all dancing model. As usual the more you pay the more you get (fair to say it is like everything else in life...but I guess their are always exceptions! But I have never come across any yet!). The function of a helmet camcorder is to record an activity whilst participating in that activity with the sole intention of replaying it back at a later date.

The best model under £100.00 is definitely the ATC - 3K with a 48 degree wide angle lens. The one draw back is that it only takes video and not stills and for really extreme sports, with lots of vibration, it will struggle. Made by Oregon Scientific Inc, the market leaders in this field, you can expect a well made camera This camera has been superceded by the ATC - 5K which has many more features but this will take you over the £100.00 barrier.

A quick final word on second hand models. Personally I would keep clear because you never know where it has been! There will be no warranty and for just a little more you can get a spanking brand new model but again there are always exceptions!
